2020 Kia Soul: Design, Specs, Options, Release

Kia used the 2018 Los Angeles Show to pull the wraps off the all-new Soul model. The redesigned compact hatchback starts the third generation as the 2020 Kia Soul. Kia still hides some specs like the mileage but revealed also some of the most important facts about the new Soul.

The new version ditches some trim options but will still offer the six levels of customization. The model again comes in EV version but remains with the front-wheel drive only. The better performance and handling will also arrive with the new-gen Soul but Kia improved also the passenger and cargo space. The model won’t also lack the modern tech and safety features and will also get attention with the distinctive and boxy style.

The new 2020 Kia Soul made the transition to the third generation on the new strengthened platform and with the redefined dimensions. The new Soul has 165.2 inches from bumper to bumper which is 2.5 inches more than on the previous generation. With the longer body goes also the 1.2-inch longer wheelbase which opens more interior comfort and cargo space.

From the visual perspective, the new Soul remains similarly shaped and instantly recognizable. However, the new styling elements and several tricks make it more appealing to the eye. The model sports the new, slim headlights and upper grille while also comes with the redesigned front bumper area. The front bumper has a bit of the sports flair while the EV version has fewer openings in that area and also comes on the unique five-spoke wheels.

The roof also adds to the appearance with the floating style and the rear has also the new, tall taillights design.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, the new Soul boosts the cargo space for addition 5 cubes which now measures 23.8 cubic feet with the all seats up. The model keeps other interior dimensions largely unchanged.

The redesigned hatch also has the nice dash design with the center screen sized up to 10.25 inches and with Apple Car Play and Android Auto features. Kia will also offer the features like the wireless charging, automatic climate, 640 Wats sound system with 10 speakers, etc. The model will also provide the full set of the active safety systems. Watching and preventing collisions will be automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, lane keep control, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors and blind spot monitoring.

The all-new Soul will arrive in six trim levels. Kia promised LX, S, X-Line, GT-Line, EX, and EX Designer Collection options including also the EV variant. Full specs of the trims will appear closer to the market launch.

On the performance front, the new 2020 Kia Soul promises better driving characteristics thanks to the new, more rigid platform and improved suspension system. The model now relies on the fully independent rear suspension.

The propulsion for the non-electric version will provide inline-4 and turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The base power unit is a 2.0-liter inline-4 with the power and torque ratings at 147 hp and 132 pound-feet. This engine Kia will offer either 6-speed manual transmission or CVT. The turbo version also returns with the new-gen Soul. A 1.6-liter turbo-4 unit boosts the performance to 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. The GT-Line version will combine this engine with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. No all-wheel drive for the redesigned Soul as some reports claimed earlier.

The electric Soul version comes with the 64-kWh lithium-ion battery pack which provides also the power for the Hyundai Kona EV and Kia Niro EV. The battery feeds the electric motor mounted on the front axle. The system makes 201 hp and torque of 291 pound-feet.

Kia says that battery needs 75 minutes for the 80 percent recharge with the fast-charging unit. The range of 100 miles should take 30 minutes of recharging. Kia hasn’t, however, revealed the mileage of the new EV version. The same battery provides 239 miles in the Niro EV.

2020 Cadillac Escalade: Redesign, More powertrain options, Arrival

After the arrival of the attractive and turbocharged small luxury SUV, the XT4, Cadillac was recently in the news when the spy photos of brand’s new three-row high-riding model appeared. The new model will likely get the XT6 badge and position in the mid-size class. But the brand is simultaneously working on the new generation of the large Escalade model as well.

No spy photos of the redesigned Escalade appeared yet but some reports reveal some details about what we should expect. The model will likely be ready for sale in late 2019 or early 2020. So, it will likely arrive as the 2020 Cadillac Escalade. Further details reveal possible three powertrain options including the plug-in hybrid version. The style will likely draw some inspiration from the Escala Concept while the latest model from the brand should give us insight about the technology we should expect.

If the latest reports prove to be true in the future, the 2020 Cadillac Escalade should switch from the current single V-8 engine to three powertrain options where the plug-in hybrid version is also possible.

No clear details about options available yet, but since the new Silverado and Sierra trucks will offer the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the Escalade will likely keep this engine in the equipment list well. The current version of this engine makes 420 hp and 460 pound-feet of torque. However, the engine will surely make some performance and efficiency upgrades.

What could, however, be the great news is the reports about the new twin-turbo V-8 engine which should also arrive with the new-gen version. We are speaking about the 4.2-liter bi-turbo V-8 from the CT6 model. The engine if comes as an option and will provide over 400 hp while the version in the CT6 V-Sport can deliver 550 hp and torque of 627 pound-feet. In any case, both engines will be in the pair with the 10-speed automatic transmission. The two- and all-wheel drive options will also be in the game.

However, the new Escalade could also come with the plug-in hybrid option but that could wait for the next model year after the redesign. The plug-in hybrid version would likely be some form of the plug-in hybrid powertrain from the CT6. This system integrates the pair of electric motors and a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

The new Escalade should also provide a more comfortable ride thanks to the new independent rear suspension setup.

We don’t have many details about the design of the new 2020 Cadillac Escalade. The model is expected to stay on the truck-based platform while should adopt the design language from the Escala Concept.

The new grille version and headlights similar to the units on the new Cadillacs and sleeker profile should contribute to that. No details about the changes in size.

The new dash will ingrate the larger center screen interface and the latest features from this area. The advanced safety systems will also be the part of the deal and expect them from the base version of course.

With the all-new Subaru Ascent for the 2019 model year, Subaru has again a three-row, mid-size SUV for its loyal baryes after the Tribeca retirement. The new model can seat up to eight and comes equipped with modern safety and infotainment tech from the base model. With the mid-size Ascent, the big families can also tow up to 5, 000 pounds and power provides the new turbo-4 engine.

The new version of the largest Subaru comes as the 2020 Subaru Ascent and except no major modifications. The model will offer new color and wheel options and new packages. It will return in base, Premium, Limited and Touring trim levels.

There won’t be big news for the 2020 Subaru Ascent regarding its design and structure. The all-new Ascent based on the brand’s new global architecture is here for the 2019 model year and it will continue the journey in the same form and style.

The Ascent applies brands latest design language defined with the large signature grille and familiar headlights. It has a tall hood and defined line on the profile that stretching over fenders and door handles. The arched side window line and roof-mounted spoiler reduce the boxy shape and the rear also has nice taillights and trim chrome slat connecting them.

The 2020 Subaru Ascent will repeat the same style and offer several new colors and wheel options.

Interior, equipment:

The Ascent has the mission of transporting big families and their cargo and its interior is designed with that in mind. The model offers seven and eight seat configurations. The max cargo space is up to 82.5 cubes. With all seats in function, it offers 19.9 cubes while without the rearmost row 47.6 cubes are available.

The dash design is functional and with easy-to-use controls. The base version will have a 6.5-inch infotainment interface and also come with the cloth upholstery, tri-zone auto climate control, smartphone support features but also EyeSight package of advanced safety systems.

The next level trim will improve with an 8-inch touchscreen, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Wi-Fi hotspot, heated front seats and available will also be blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, etc.

The Limited version will add the leather upholstery, keyless entry and ignition, adaptive LED headlights, 20-inch wheels and more. The top Touting model upgrades with the woodgrain pieces, a moonroof, heated front two row and cooled front seats, rain-sensing wipers, a smart rearview mirror, front camera and more.

No signs that Subaru will add the new engine option for the 2020 Subaru Ascent. The three-row SUV will have a 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine under the hood coupled with the continuously variable transmission. The power output will stay at 260 horsepower and torque at 277 pound-feet.

The Ascent is the all-wheel drive by default. The model can tow up to 5, 000 pounds and Subaru claims 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. The model will return about 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

The ride height of 8.7 inches and electronically controlled and capable all-wheel-drive system will provide strong performance behind the beaten paths but the model isn’t designed for the serious off-roading.

2020 BMW X1: Mid-update, Changes, Release

BMW is testing the refreshed X1 crossover which should be ready for the next year launch. The updated X1 was expected as the 2019 model according to the previous reports but the mid-cycle refresh will coincide with the 2020 BMW X1 version.

The new model will bring the small changes on the front and rear side as it is the case with the most mid-updates while changes inside the cabin should be even subtler. The front-wheel-drive-based small crossovers should also return the same-number-of-cylinders engine options with the possible plug-in hybrid introduction. More details will emerge closer to the launch date.

2020 BMW X1: Refreshed look

The new 2020 BMW X1 will bring some visual refreshments and there won’t be radical changes. The prototype version has the swirly camo on the sections of the front and rear sides while the profile remains undisguised.

Obviously, the usual mid-update changes will appear with the new version. The model will gain the new headlights and taillights but both seem to have the similar shape while changes the internal pattern.

The kidney grille version also changes in line with the most recent high-riding models in the range and the front bumper is also the part of the refresh. The rear bumper will also get a slightly restyled form but overall BMW’s first crossover in the range won’t change the styling radically.

As for the interior design and available equipment, the revised X1 will also come in the line with recently revised models from the brand.

The model should get the new steering wheel, gear shifter and iDrive system. A bit larger center display should appear and BMW might also add the new digital instrument cluster. Expect also the rearview camera and automatic emergency braking to become the standard equipment.

The engine range of the new 2020 BMW X1 will again consist of the 3- and 4-cylinder options depending on the market. No details about the performance yet but the power range should vary between 116 and 230 hp.

The version in the US will again get the turbo-4 unit with the 8-speed automatic transmission and standard two-wheel drive. The power on all four wheels will also be available but some sources suggest a new sub-200 hp engine option.

BMW might also offer the plug-in hybrid version. The X1 version in China has the setup with the 1.5-liter inline-3 turbo engine and the electric motor at the rear axle. The 10.7-kWh battery pack provides the range around 37 miles in this version. Some sort of this setup should also find the way to the new markets with the arrival of the next version or later.

The mid-size GMC Acadia provides the great ride quality and interior refinement and the model also offers a punchy V-6 engine option. The model arrived as the scaled down version and significantly lighter for the new generation in 2017 and the model is now nearing to the mid-cycle update. The prototype version of the refreshed 2020 GMC Acadia has already been on the roads testing and the new version will hit the market in 2019.

The updated Acadia will bring the styling in the line with the brand’s recent models and small adjustments should also appear inside the cabin. The revised tech and safety equipment will also be the part of the mid-update. GMC will also update the mechanics with the possible introduction the new transmission system while there are no signs suggesting the new turbocharged or diesel engine option.

For the new model year and the mid-cycle update, the 2020 GMC Acadia will bring its styling in line with the recently refreshed or redesigned models in the brand’s lineup.

The prototype version has the disguised front and rear end sections and most of the changes will take place there. The model will get the refreshed front fascia with the new versions of brand’s signature grille accompanied with the new headlights. Expect both to adopt the similar design theme as on the recently redesigned Terrain and Sierra models.

The interior of the refreshed Acadia will also receive several modifications but there won’t be any radical moves. The model will keep the current dashboard design and update some tech and safety features.

The SUV will also stay in the same dimensions of offer the seats for up to seven passengers. The available cargo space will be up to 79 cubic feet with only the front row in function. With all seats up, the cargo volume will be just 12.8 cubes.

The model will also offer different material options and high comfort features with the high-luxury Denali version at the top of the range. GMC should also expand the availability of some advanced safety systems to the lower grades.

As for the changes in the powertrain range, the 2020 GMC Acadia will likely continue with the familiar engine options. Some sources suggested the introduction of the new turbocharged engine and even diesel option but no signs from the company about that possibility. However, a more probable upgrade is the new 9-speed automatic transmission which should provide some performance and efficiency upgrades.

The base engine will more than likely remain a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit with the current power delivery of 193 hp and torque of 188 pound-feet. The better performance will provide a 3.6-liter V-6 with the power around 310 hp and torque of 271 lb-ft.

BMW’s first in the lineup and fun to drive crossover, the X1 has been around since the 2016 model year in its second generation. With the fierce competition from Audi and Mercedes, BMW must keep the model fresh and the firm was spotted while testing the updated X1. The model will go on sale at some point in 2019 while should show what it has to offer later this year.

No details yet about BMW’s intents regarding the powertrain and potential upgrades. In the US the X1 packs the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The two- and four-drive are both available while the model returns around 25 mpg combined fuel economy.

With the capability of delivering 228 hp and 258 lb-ft combined with the precise steering and suspension, the model provides great driving dynamics but BMW will surely try to draw more from the refreshed 2019 BMW X1. So, we should expect some efficiency and performance improvements.

The plug-in hybrid version of this model is also expected sometime in the near future but not for the upcoming model year.

Toyota canceled the 4.0-liter V-6 engine in some markets since the recent refresh. Most of the 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will go with the 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. With the six-speed automatic gearbox and capable four-wheel drive system, the Prado will have 174 hp (130 kW) and toque od 450 Nm at disposal. The manual transmission will also be available but will reduce the torque to 420 Nm.

A full-time, low range 4WD system will provide impressive off-road capability and the Pardo will also be able to tow significant loads. With the recent towing upgrade, the model will allow up to 3, 000 kg.

2020 Honda Passport: Design, Specs, Equipment, Price

Honda has recently revived the Passport nameplate and the model takes the form of the two-row crossover SUV with the “soft off-road” capability and plenty of interior space. The Passport model fills the gap between the compact CR-V and mid-size Pilot in the brand’s formidable crossover SUV range. The model shares plenty of style, interior features and mechanics with the Pilot SUV and the production takes place at the factory in Lincoln, Alabama where the three-row Pilot is being assembled as well.

Honda will offer the 2020 Honda Passport with the single engine option like the mid-size Pilot and the range of trims will also be familiar. The two-row Passport will go on sale in four trims including Sport, EX-L, Touring ould and Elite. The model will provide the same towing capability as the larger Pilot while will be more capable for the off-road adventures. There will also be the latest tech and safety systems and several premium features.

The 2020 Honda Passport shares the platform with the Pilot SUV and Ridgeline pickup and the model uses also the similar mechanic elements.

The Passport is, however, sized for the transportation of up to five people and provides plenty of cargo thanks to the clever interior design. The model measures 190,5 inches from bumper to bumper while rides on the 111-inch wheelbase. The wheelbase is identical to that of the larger Pilot but the Passport is 6 inches shorter while has a 10-inch longer footprint than the compact CR-V.

Form the visual perspective, the model looks like the shrunken Pilot with the similar shape and styling elements. The shape of the grille and the headlights are similar to the latest vehicles from Honda. The Passport has also nice creases on the hood and dynamic character line on the side panels.

The model improves also the off-road capability with the lifted ride height and taller wheel arches than the larger Pilot. The Passport has the ride height of 8.4 inches and boasts also the better approach and departure angles than the larger cousin. The approach angle is 21,4 degrees and departure 27, 6 inches.

Inside the cabin, the Passport uses the design familiar from the larger Pilot and offer a similar equipment range. The same wheelbase as the three-row Pilot provides, however, competitive passenger and cargo space.  With the all five seats in function, the model provides 41,2 cubes of the cargo room while with no passengers in the rear row the capacity shrinks to 100 cubes. The model has also a number of storage compartments and plenty of the legroom in both rows.

As for the available equipment, the base model starts with the cloth upholstery, LED headlights, keyless ignition, etc. The standard equipment includes also the 7-inch TFT instrument cluster display, a 5-inch center screen, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, etc. The EX-L adds an 8-inch touchscreen with the smartphone support, leather upholstery, power tailgate, heated front seats, etc. The Touring improves with the heated rear seats, wi-fi hotspot, parking sensors, etc. The range-topping version has the cooled seats, heated steering wheel, unique trim accents and more.

Honda makes also the Passport safer with the standard systems like the adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, active lane control and lane departure warning. The blind-spot monitoring becomes the standard equipment in the EX-L and upper grades.

The 2020 Honda Passport adopts the Pilot-based underpinning and the same engine as well. A 3.5-liter V-6 makes 280 hp and torque of 262 pound-feet. The 9-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the front wheel by default. The available four-wheel drive and improved ride height compared to the three-row Pilot and combined with the shorter overhangs boost the off-road capability over the Pilot’s but the Passport remains the soft off-roader.

The Passport will also provide the good towing capability. The same platform and mechanics mean the same towing ratings as the Pilot SUV. The front-wheel-drive Passport allows up to 3, 500 pounds of towing. With the power on all wheels, the model can tow up to 5, 000 pounds.

Ford’s premium sub-brand has been in the offensive with the new and updated models since the introduction of the Continental sedan. But the brand has also the focus on its SUV range and has been in the process of the improving, introducing and renaming the high-riding models. The Lincoln Nautilus, mid-size, two-row crossover is the new nameplate, styling, improved efficiency and safety of the Edge-based and previously named MKX model. The restyled and renamed model was the part of the mid-update of the Lincoln MKX.

For the 2020 Lincoln Nautilus, the things will remain the same as now. Lincoln won’t come with the major modifications after the recent update and the model will offer the same options as well. The Nautilus crossover will return with the fresh styling and two turbocharged power units. It will also offer nicely-styled and well-equipped cabins.

The 2020 Lincoln Nautilus will continue to live on the recent styling updates and on the same structure. The Continental and Navigator-inspired styling was adopted on the same Edge-based structure and greenhouse of the MKX model. The profile remained the same after the mid-update and renaming while the rear also adopted the refreshed design.

The 2020 Nautilus will also continue with the same interior as on the current version. The recent update brought some material and texture upgrades but the cabin isn’t the large departure from the MKX model. The cargo capacity is same as under the previous nameplate. The max cargo room is 68.3 cubic feet and with the second row in the function it is 37.2 cubes at the disposal.

The next Nautilus will also return the familiar trim levels. The Sync3 infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto will keep you connected and manage controls. The model will also come with the digitalized 12.3-inch instrument cluster among the options as well with the 19-Speaker Revel sound system, 22-way adjustable seats, and plenty of the safety equipment.  Available will be the systems like the adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and keep assist, blind spot monitors, automatic emergency braking, etc.

To the new decade, the 2020 Lincoln Nautilus will continue with turbocharged units from the current version.

The crossover will have a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine as the base power unit. The engine is the pair with the standard 8-speed automatic transmission. The power it delivers will be 245 hp and torque 280 pound-feet.

The fuel efficiency for this power combo will be 23 mpg combined with two-wheel drive and 22 mpg combined with the power on all wheels.

The next level of performance will provide a 2.7-liter bi-turbo V-6. The number of the gears is the same as on the base version while the all-wheel drive is mandatory. But the power and torque ratings will be at 335 hp and 380 pound-feet while the fuel economy around 21 mpg combined.

After the investment of about $1.3 billion and hours of testing and designing, JLR has brought the all-new Evoque in front of the public. The brand’s fast-selling and smallest SUV benefits from the improvements on all fronts but still remains recognizable form.

The second-generation 2020 Range Rover Evoque comes on the new platform and with the almost all-new body structure. The model improves also the interior comfort combining it with the top-notch tech and safety technologies. The look is also sleeker and more elegant while there are also more efficient and powerful powertrains.

2020 Range Rover Evoque: Platform, Design

The redesigned, second generation 2020 Range Rover Evoque started the transformation with the new platform and body structure. The Premium Transverse Architecture is intended for brand’s smaller models with the goal of providing better electrification and performance. The new platform is the mixed-material construction with the high strength and regular steel, aluminum and magnesium in the mix. The new design opens the door for the mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies as well as for the Ingenium family of engines.

With the new underpinning, the redesigned Evoque also sports the sleeker Velar-inspired look and a 90 percent of the body structure is also new. The new body is placed on 0.8 inches longer wheelbase. This translates to more rear legroom but with the shorter overhangs, the model is actually slightly shorter.

Styling:

The look of the new Evoque is the evolution of the current design with the obvious similarities with the Velar SUV. The same basic look remains in the combination with the sloping roofline and high beltline. The models gained, however, the new grille and headlights and redesigned lower openings. The slim grille version has the honeycomb pattern and comes with the narrow, nicely accentuated headlights.

The model has also the smooth body lines and flush door handles. The sculpted fenders add a bit of the contrast to the flat panels. The rear side is also fresh with the new two-piece taillights.

The brand will offer the new Evoque with nice contrasting body painting options and wheel sizes ranging from 17- 21 inches.

Interior, equipment:

The interior of the new Evoque comes with the improved comfort and the latest technologies. The stretched wheelbase opens more space for the rear passengers and the new seats also boost the comfort. With the increased passenger comfort, the new Evoque improved also the cargo area to 50.5 cubic feet.

The handsome look of the model is matched with the high-quality materials and rich textures inside the cabin. The model also gained the Touch Pro Duo touchscreen system with the pair of 10.2-inch screens which debuted in the Velar model. The Evoque provides also Apple Car Play and Android Auto support. In front of the driver is a 12.-3 digital instrument cluster and there is also the head-up display projecting the information on the windshield.  The newly added ground view camera also provides the picture of what is underneath and ahead of the front wheels.

The power for the new 2020 Range Rover Evoque comes from the two powertrain options in the US while the diesel options will appear on the Old Continent.

The base Evoque will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ingenium engine. The unit makes 246 hp and torque of 369 lb-ft compared to the previous version 237 hp and torque of 251 lb-ft. In the combination with the engine is a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

The option will be a P300 version with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The power it provides is 296 hp and the MHEV system. Using also the 14.7-hp belt-integrated generator it provides 6 percent improved efficiency and improved torque response.

JLR hasn’t confirmed yet the plug-in hybrid powertrain for the US which will appear in Europe next year. The system will integrate the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with the power output of 197 hp in the combination with the starter generator and electric motor. The 40.2-hp generator will power the front wheels while the 106-hp electric motor will spin the rear wheels and get the power from the 11.3- kWh battery.

The model also features the new-generation all-wheel-drive system which can transfer the power between the rear wheels simulating the torque vectoring and can also lock the rear wheels. The Terrain Select 2 system will also be available with the modes for Sand, Mud, Snow, Eco, etc. The SUV boasts also lifted ground clearance. The 8.3 inches of the ground clearance comes with the 20-degree approach and 30-degree departure angles while can go through the 23.6-inch deep water.

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque will go on sale in the US next year after the debut at the next Chicago Auto Show. We will know the price after the debut but it should go slightly up from the current base $42, 000.
