2020 Toyota Highlander: Redesign, Changes, Arrival

Toyota’s reliable, mid-size, three-row Highlander crossover
SUV is faced now with many updated, redesigned or newly-introduced models. Ford
revealed recently the heavily-improved Explorer and the Highlander has also the
updated Honda Pilot and Buick Encore in the sight but also the newcomers such
as the Kia Telluride, Subaru Ascent and Hyundai Palisade. The all-new
Highlander arrived for 2014 and received the mid-update for the 2017 version.
Toyota has, however, been caught testing the new-generation 2020 Toyota
Highlander recently.

Details about the fifth-generation Highlander are still scarce but the three-row family hauler should grow in size and move on the new platform. The styling should also see the revisions in accordance to brand’s latest design language while model should also come with the heavily reworked interior and newest tech, comfort and safety features. The powertrain range should again include the gasoline and electrified versions.

Toyota is prepping the new 2020 Toyota Highlander and like
many of its recent models, the version will be based on the stretched version
of the TNGA modular platform which forms also the base of the models like the
CH-R, Avalon, Camry, RAV4, etc. With the Toyota Global New architecture, the
Highlander should provide better performance and flexibility plus weigh less
while the prototype versions suggest also the enlarged dimensions.

Form the visual point of view, it seems that the test
version hides the styling similar to what we can see on recently all-new RAV4.
The styling cues we saw initially on the FT-AC concept model should be applied
to the new Highlander as well. That should mean hexagonal grille design
combined with swept-back headlights and dynamic front bumper style. 

The profile seems also to be coming with the trapezoidal
shaped fender flares and cleaner lines. The rear will also receive the new
taillights and resculpted tailgate and rear bumper.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, we should expect more passenger and cargo
space as the prototype version seem to have stretched wheelbase and length. The
current Highlander provides max cargo capacity of 84 cubes and just 14 cubic
feet with the all seats functional.

The new Highlander will also arrive with the new interior
design and upgraded materials and textures. The model should use similar dash
elements placement as the RAV4 with the center screen sitting atop the middle
of the dash and new air vents.

The new generation version will also adopt the latest Entune infotainment platform with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The safety will also be updated to the latest Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite with the sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, etc.

No details have leaked yet about the powertrain Toyota will
use in the new generation 2020 Toyota Highlander.   

The range should include the four-cylinder and V-6 gasoline
units like in the current version and the electrified option as well. The
possible candidates should be the units from the mid-size Camry sedan. A
2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with power around 200 hp and the V-6 unit with
the potential around 300 hp. Both engines should come in the combination with
the 8-speed automatic transmission. 

The hybrid could combine updated 3.5-liter V-6 engine with
the battery-powered electric motor for a slightly improved total output.

Acura’s best-selling model RDX entered the third generation as the 2019 version and the model arrived with more style, turbocharged power, torque vectoring all-wheel drive, high-class interior and much more. The new generation RDX sports the new exterior design and better performance and in the fast-growing segment, it was on the sales chart in front of the names such as the BMW X3, Audi Q3. Mercedes GLC, etc., at some periods.

So, after the comprehensive redesign, we shouldn’t expect much to change with the arrival of the next 2020 Acura RDX version. The model will bring new color options and probably more standard features.

The recent redesign brought the new RDX on the new platform and larger in all directions. The model rides on the 2.6-inch longer wheelbase while has 2.4 inches more in lengths than the version its replaced.

The new generation model also adopted the design language defined with the pentagonal grille and attractive Jewel Eye headlights. But the more angular body, sweeping lines on the side panels and sharply styled rear also boost the visual impression.

As for the 2020 Acura RDX, things will stay the same from the visual point of view. What we sound expect are new shades and wheel options.

The high-end interior is also the strong side of the RDX. The model combines the dynamic dash design and specific controls and dials with the premium, contrasting materials and nice wood, aluminum and other accents. The RDX also offers a max cargo capacity of 58,9 cubes and with the rear seats functional up to 29, 5 cubes.

The model also comes with the advanced tech and safety features. Even the base version will have a 10.2-inch screen-based infotainment system, nice speakers, USBs, etc. The entry-level model will also provide keyless ignition, LED headlights, heated front seats, etc. The standard safety equipment will also be numerous. The RDX will rely on adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision wringing with automatic emergency braking and other usual gear.

The available upgrades will add the leather upholstery, navigation, more speakers, blind-spot monitoring, ventilated front seats, surround view cameras and more.

The RDX ditched the V-6 engine in favor of the Civic Type R-based turbo unit for the recent redesign. The 2020 Acura RDX will return with the willing 2.0-liter turbo-4 with 272 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque at disposal. The engine will work in the conjunction with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

The model will offer the all-wheel drive which can transfer up to 70 percent of the torque to the rear wheels. Improving the handling will also be the torque vectoring which can route power left to right up to 100 percent. Another level of the drive control will provide the Integrated Dynamics System with the different modes for the particular road conditions.

As for the fuel efficiency, the RDX will be around 24 mpg combined regardless of the two- or all-wheel drive.

Honda has recently revived the Passport nameplate and the model takes the form of the two-row crossover SUV with the “soft off-road” capability and plenty of interior space. The Passport model fills the gap between the compact CR-V and mid-size Pilot in the brand’s formidable crossover SUV range. The model shares plenty of style, interior features and mechanics with the Pilot SUV and the production takes place at the factory in Lincoln, Alabama where the three-row Pilot is being assembled as well.

Honda will offer the 2020 Honda Passport with the single engine option like the mid-size Pilot and the range of trims will also be familiar. The two-row Passport will go on sale in four trims including Sport, EX-L, Touring ould and Elite. The model will provide the same towing capability as the larger Pilot while will be more capable for the off-road adventures. There will also be the latest tech and safety systems and several premium features.

The 2020 Honda Passport shares the platform with the Pilot SUV and Ridgeline pickup and the model uses also the similar mechanic elements.

The Passport is, however, sized for the transportation of up to five people and provides plenty of cargo thanks to the clever interior design. The model measures 190,5 inches from bumper to bumper while rides on the 111-inch wheelbase. The wheelbase is identical to that of the larger Pilot but the Passport is 6 inches shorter while has a 10-inch longer footprint than the compact CR-V.

Form the visual perspective, the model looks like the shrunken Pilot with the similar shape and styling elements. The shape of the grille and the headlights are similar to the latest vehicles from Honda. The Passport has also nice creases on the hood and dynamic character line on the side panels.

The model improves also the off-road capability with the lifted ride height and taller wheel arches than the larger Pilot. The Passport has the ride height of 8.4 inches and boasts also the better approach and departure angles than the larger cousin. The approach angle is 21,4 degrees and departure 27, 6 inches.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, the Passport uses the design familiar from the larger Pilot and offer a similar equipment range. The same wheelbase as the three-row Pilot provides, however, competitive passenger and cargo space.  With the all five seats in function, the model provides 41,2 cubes of the cargo room while with no passengers in the rear row the capacity shrinks to 100 cubes. The model has also a number of storage compartments and plenty of the legroom in both rows.

As for the available equipment, the base model starts with the cloth upholstery, LED headlights, keyless ignition, etc. The standard equipment includes also the 7-inch TFT instrument cluster display, a 5-inch center screen, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, etc. The EX-L adds an 8-inch touchscreen with the smartphone support, leather upholstery, power tailgate, heated front seats, etc. The Touring improves with the heated rear seats, wi-fi hotspot, parking sensors, etc. The range-topping version has the cooled seats, heated steering wheel, unique trim accents and more.

Honda makes also the Passport safer with the standard systems like the adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, active lane control and lane departure warning. The blind-spot monitoring becomes the standard equipment in the EX-L and upper grades.

The 2020 Honda Passport adopts the Pilot-based underpinning and the same engine as well. A 3.5-liter V-6 makes 280 hp and torque of 262 pound-feet. The 9-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the front wheel by default. The available four-wheel drive and improved ride height compared to the three-row Pilot and combined with the shorter overhangs boost the off-road capability over the Pilot’s but the Passport remains the soft off-roader.

The Passport will also provide the good towing capability. The same platform and mechanics mean the same towing ratings as the Pilot SUV. The front-wheel-drive Passport allows up to 3, 500 pounds of towing. With the power on all wheels, the model can tow up to 5, 000 pounds.

The wave of the new SUVs splashed the 2018 Los Angeles Show. Lincoln used the show to present the all-new 2020 Lincoln Aviator. The new model is the brand’s replacement for the MKT model and takes the position between the larger Navigator and smaller Nautilus in the brand’s lineup. With this launch, Lincoln has the three-row, mid-size SUV to go against the market giants like the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Volvo XC-90 and Mercedes GLE.

Lincoln’s new Explorer-based SUV offers the six and seven-seat configurations and plenty of the high-end luxury features. The model also gets an attention with the sleek exterior style and the brand’s latest tech and safety equipment. The Aviator gets the propulsion from the twin-turbo V-6 engine and the new plug-in hybrid powertrain is also available making the model the most powerful Lincoln ever.

Lincoln offers its new, stunning SUV in the base, Reserve and Black Label trims. There the model will include the leather upholstery, aluminum and wood textures. The model will also offer the 30-way power adjustable front seats and highly configurable middle row. The model will come with the sophisticated adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, Stop and Go function bundled in the Traffic Jam Assist system. The safety aspect will also include Active Park Assist, Reverse Brake Assist and Evasive Braking Assist.

The premium style and feel will also be backed up with the high-performance powertrains. The 2020 Lincoln Aviator will employ the 3.0-liter bi-turbo V-6 in two configurations, 10-speed automatic transmission, sophisticated suspension and systems to provide the high-class and high-performance ride.

A 3.0-liter V-6 with the twin turbocharges will provide the “base” performance of 400 hp and 450 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Touring version will use the same engine in the combination with the battery-powered electric motor. The motor provides instant torque and the combined output with the V-6 engine of 450 hp and 600 lb-ft. The system includes also the 10-speed automatic transmission with the electric motor placed in transmissions housing while the battery takes the place under the floor below the passengers’ area.

The ride comfort will also be the strong side of this premium model and Lincoln uses the adaptive air suspension with the camera system monitoring the road ahead and adjusting the settings in the real time. The multiple driving modes will also tailor the ride to the conditions. The base model will switch between the Normal, Conserve, Excite, Slippery, and off-road Deep Conditions mode. The plug-in hybrid version will add the Pure EV and Preserve EV modes with one prioritizing the performance while another efficiency.

With the all-new Subaru Ascent for the 2019 model year, Subaru has again a three-row, mid-size SUV for its loyal baryes after the Tribeca retirement. It has a tall hood and defined line on the profile that stretching over fenders and door handles. The arched side window line and roof-mounted spoiler reduce the boxy shape and the rear also has nice taillights and trim chrome slat connecting them.

Interior, equipment:

The Ascent has the mission of transporting big families and their cargo and its interior is designed with that in mind. The model offers seven and eight seat configurations. The max cargo space is up to 82.5 cubes. With all seats in function, it offers 19.9 cubes while without the rearmost row 47.6 cubes are available.

The dash design is functional and with easy-to-use controls. The base version will have a 6.5-inch infotainment interface and also come with the cloth upholstery, tri-zone auto climate control, smartphone support features but also EyeSight package of advanced safety systems.

The next level trim will improve with an 8-inch touchscreen, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Wi-Fi hotspot, heated front seats and available will also be blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, etc.

The Limited version will add the leather upholstery, keyless entry and ignition, adaptive LED headlights, 20-inch wheels and more. The top Touting model upgrades with the woodgrain pieces, a moonroof, heated front two row and cooled front seats, rain-sensing wipers, a smart rearview mirror, front camera and more.

No signs that Subaru will add the new engine option for the 2020 Subaru Ascent. The three-row SUV will have a 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine under the hood coupled with the continuously variable transmission. The power output will stay at 260 horsepower and torque at 277 pound-feet.

The Ascent is the all-wheel drive by default. The model can tow up to 5, 000 pounds and Subaru claims 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. The model will return about 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

The ride height of 8.7 inches and electronically controlled and capable all-wheel-drive system will provide strong performance behind the beaten paths but the model isn’t designed for the serious off-roading.

2020 Chevy Suburban: Redesign, News, Options, Release

After the redesigned light-duty Silverado 1500 appeared for the 2019 model year, Chevy was caught working on the new-generation, heavy-duty trucks. But following the new generation Silverado 1500 will also be GM’s truck-based SUVs and the all-new, full-size 2020 Chevy Suburban will be one of them. The redesigned Tahoe and GMC Yukon will also join the game mirroring the upgrades of the Chevy and GMC light-duty trucks.

The new-generation 2020 Suburban will switch to the new platform and shed some pounds in the process. The styling will also follow the pattern of the all-new Silverado 1500 and the engine range will be similar as well. The news for the upcoming Suburban is also the change to the independent rear suspension.

GM is working on its full-size fleet and like the all-new Silverado 1500, the redesigned 2020 Chevy Suburban will be based on the version of the T1XX chassis. The prototype of the model despite heavily disguised seems to have the similar treatment of the headlights as the Silverado 1500. The same case will be with the design of the taillights but the grille and body lines should also follow the pattern.

The full-size, three-row SUV will also come with the redesigned interior and increased comfort and luxury. The new suspension setup will boost the ride comfort and model will get new materials and tech features.

The next Suburban will also mimic the dash design and equipment offer of the new-gen, half-ton Silverado. The model will get the newest infotainment system with the center screen probably sized at 7 and 8 inches. The premium quality materials and luxury trim will be available with the heated and ventilated seats. The autonomous driving technology will also be the part of the equipment list.

Chevy hasn’t revealed the changes in the powertrain range and hides other detail about mechanics as well.

However, the 2020 Chevy Suburban will surely bring the new rear suspension setup changing from the solid rear to the independent rear suspension at least as an option if not as the standard solution. This move should improve the ride comfort significantly.

As for the engine lineup, the new model should again follow the path of the new Silverado 1500. The 5.3-liter V-8 should appear with the new fuel management measures and power around 355 hp. The 6.2-liter V-8 and new 10-speed automatic transmission should make around 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The new Suburban could also follow the redesigned Silverado 1500 with the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit and 3.0-liter Duramax I6 engine.

2020 BMW X5 M: News, Design, Engine, Price

The all-new BMW X5 is here for the 2019 model year and the model entered the new generation with the larger body and more interior room and comfort. The popular SUV packs also the advanced technology and top-notch convenience features but has also the high-performance gear.

However, the BMW X5 is still unfinished business as more versions are set to come. BMW will deliver the plug-in hybrid version with about 40 miles of electric range for the 2021 model year. But, for the higher adrenaline drive buyers will also get the M division-branded model. The high-performance model should arrive as the 2020 BMW X5 M and was already spotted several times while testing. BMW hides, however, the most important details. The engine is known but we don’t have official details about the performance. The same engine will also power the coupe-like X6 M version and more M-branded BMW s will appear in near future including the X3 and X4 high-riding models.

The recently redesigned X5 can already be had with the mighty twin-turbo V-8 engine which takes the place under the hood of the xDrive50i version. The 4.4-liter bi-turbo engine makes 456 hp and torque of 479 pound-feet which is enough to launch this model to 60 mph in 4,6 seconds.

The 2020 BMW X5 M will also pack the 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 under the hood but the heavily revised version of this engine will add more ponies to the count. The M division X5 version should produce around 600 hp and torque around 533 pound-feet. The Competition version could add additional power hitting around 625 hp.

The model will use an 8-speed automatic transmission routing the power to the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The sophisticated system debuted in the new M5 and we will see how it performs in the X5. The X5 M will also get the special-tuned suspension and unique wheel and exhaust system combined with the powerful braking system.

Like the 2019 BMW X5, the M division version will benefit from the use of the modular, lightweight CLAR platform and apply the same design language as the conventional X5 but with additional performance-oriented touches.

The rear bumper and quad exhaust setup will add sportier appearance to the rear side and unique 21-inch alloy wheels and M division mirrors will also distinguish this version from the rest of the range.

Expect the 2020 Porsche Cayenne with the same powerful engine options and with the hybrid setup.

The base version will start with 3.0-liter single-turbo V-6. The power it delivers will be 340 hp and torque of 332 pound-feet.

Switch to the S version and the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 will be placed under the hood. This engine pumps 440 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. The coupe-like version will likely start with this engine as the base power unit.

The next level of performance will provide a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V-6 with 550 hp and torque of 567 lb-ft. The E-Hybrid will combine the 3.0-liter turbo-six and electric power for the total of 455 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The electric range will be 27 miles.

Porsche’s AWD system will be on all versions as well as the 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The seven-passenger, full-size Audi Q7 SUV approached the mid-update after the redesigned model arrived for the 2017 model year. The family hauler was spotted several times and we can detect the changes on model’s front and rear fascias.

Audi will also boost the connectivity and safety tech of the sleek and comfortable SUV while major design upgrades are not expected inside the cabin. The 2020 Audi Q7 will also improve the power and efficiency as the reports claim while will likely keep the same range of the advanced powertrains and no diesel in the States of course.

The second-generation, MLB-platform-based, multi-material Audi Q7 is the sleek and attractive SUV but with the modifications on the front and rear-end sections, the 2020 Audi Q7 will adopt some styling cues of the newer Audi models.

Based on the spy photos, Audi hasn’t changed the design of the model’s profile and the sleek body panels combined with the defined character line which stretches around the tailgate will continue in the same form.

The front-end section is, however, where the transformation begins. The new headlights design uses the styling cues from the Audi A6 while the grille version on the prototype seems a bit smaller than on the current model.

Audi seems also that made some changes in the lower bumper area but they don’t look so obvious. The same is with the rear side which has almost identical taillights as the current version.

Interior, equipment:

Indie the cabin, Audi will surely upgrade connectivity and tech features plus add fresh material and texture options. However, there is no proof that the model will adopt the dash design as on the new Q8 despite it could be the case.

The model will also upgrade with the latest crash-avoidance systems. It will be well equipped from the base variant and provide great interior and ride comfort. The different high-quality material options will be mixed with the attractive trim pieces and premium comfort features. Audi will also add the new steering wheel.

Audi will likely improve the power and efficiency ratings of the 2020 Audi Q7 but no exact details about the powertrain upgrades.

What is sure the diesel-powered version won’t appear in the US while on the Old Continent the 3.0-liter TDI will be in the offer in several output options as well as the potent V-8 diesel in the SQ7.

Expect the US version with the turbo-4 and V-6 turbo options but with the improved performance and efficiency. The current 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine provides 252 hp and torque of 273 pound-feet. The 3.0-liter V-6 supercharged engine boosts the performance with available 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.

The 2020 Audi Q7 will hit the market in late 2019. The mid-update won’t affect the price radically and the model will again start around $50, 000.

Mercedes revealed the all-new EQC electric model from the established EQ sub-brand. The model made the debut in Stockholm, Sweden and the public debut will take place at the upcoming Pairs Auto Show. Mercedes announced ten electric models by 2025 and the new EQC follows the Smart EQ ForTwo model.

The model goes on sale as the 2020 Mercedes EQC and will deliver strong performance and 200+ miles of the electric range. The sleek look with the specific front-end style will get attention while the interior will come with the MBUX multimedia system by default.

The new 2020 Mercedes EQC is based on the scalable electric platform designed to support the family of the potential models. The model measures 187.4 inches in length and is about 4 inches longer than its conventionally powered equivalent the  GLC model.

Styling wise, the EQC looks elegant and has a unique front-end section. The large black panel covers large section in the front end including some of the bumper area. The headlights and grille are also the part of this section as well as LED light signature.

The profile of the model has the similar shape as the Mercedes GLC and the rear comes with the nice taillights and full-width LED band. The model will also get the wheel options in 19 to 21-inch range with different styles and unique blue accents.

Interior, features:

The cabin of the model will be defined with the MBUX design which debuted on the A-Class. The design includes the fully digital panel that incorporates the digital instrument cluster and extra wide infotainment panel in the singe section.

The model will also come with the sports, multi-functional steering wheel and the center stack will include rectangular air vents and more buttons below.

Mercedes will, of course, offer several levels of high-quality materials and the latest tech and safety features.

2020 Mercedes EQC: Performance, Mileage

Mercedes revealed the 2020 Mercedes EQC 400 version but more variants will be available. This version includes electric motors at each axle and the system forms the all-wheel drive. The driver will also be able to switch between five drive modes Comfort, Eco, Max Range, Sport and Individual.

The powertrain provides a total of 402 hp and torque of 564 pound-feet. The rear motor in the system improves the performance while the front manages efficiency. The system connects motors with the wheels via the single speed transmission. Mercedes also claims 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

The model has the flat floor-mounted battery pack of 80 kWh. This lithium-ion unit should provide the electric range of 200 miles as Mercedes claims.  The fast-charging unit will need 40 minutes to recharge the battery to 80 percent capacity.
